Cowplain Village Centre

The heart of Cowplain village — London Road shops, pubs, bus routes, and a strong community identity in Havant Borough.

Cowplain village centre runs along London Road (the A3), which has been the spine of this suburban Hampshire village for generations. The road carries heavy traffic between Portsmouth to the south and Horndean and Petersfield to the north, but the stretch through Cowplain retains a genuine village-centre feel with independent shops, takeaways, a pharmacy, and several long-standing local businesses.

The main retail provision includes a Co-op and a Tesco Express, giving residents the everyday essentials close at hand. A cluster of independent businesses — hairdressers, takeaways, a barber, and a few cafes — add to the local character along the main strip. The White Hart and The Red Lion are both London Road pubs that have served the community for decades.

The village centre is served by several bus routes. Routes 23 and 23A connect Cowplain to Havant in the south and run through the village regularly throughout the day. The X4 provides a faster link towards Portsmouth, while local Waterlooville services keep residents connected to the larger town centre just two miles to the south.

Hart Plain Junior School and Cowplain Junior School are both within easy reach of the village centre, and Cowplain School (the secondary academy) sits on Durley Avenue a short distance from the main road. The area has a strong community Facebook presence and a noticeable local identity that sets it apart from the broader Waterlooville urban area.
