What's On in Cowplain: 21 June 2026
A week of local celebration as our community shines — from diamond anniversaries to youth sporting triumphs, summer's in full swing in Cowplain.
Good Morning, Cowplain
What a week it's been for our little village! Summer's properly arrived now, the days are long and golden, and there's a real buzz about the place. We've had some wonderful local news to celebrate — and that's always worth taking a moment to appreciate. Here's what's happening in and around Cowplain over the next few days.
This Week in Cowplain
- A diamond milestone for a local couple — One of our own Cowplain pairs has marked 60 years of marriage with a special congratulatory message from the King and Queen. That's the kind of love story that deserves a proper celebration.
- Youth Spitfires claim the cup — Huge congratulations to Cowplain Youth Spitfires on their Portsmouth Youth League Under-15 Cup victory. A brilliant achievement for the young players and real credit to the coaches.
- New independent record shop coming to the area — A passionate entrepreneur is opening a vinyl record shop this summer in Portsmouth. If you're into music, this labour of love is definitely one to watch for.
- A quirky new café has opened its doors — An eccentrically decorated café has launched nearby, and by all accounts, it's brought real joy to the community. Perfect for a weekend treat if you fancy something a bit different.
This Weekend
With the sun expected and these long June days, it's brilliant walking weather. Queen's Inclosure Ancient Woodland is right on our doorstep — just east of the village — and it's absolutely lovely for a gentle wander. The woodland is quiet, wildlife-rich, and it's a proper escape without leaving Cowplain.
If you fancy something bigger, Queen Elizabeth Country Park is only about 5 miles north on the A3 (towards Horndean). With 1,400 acres of chalk downland and forest, it's perfect for families or a longer ramble. Pack a picnic and make an afternoon of it.
For something closer to home, pop into town on the 23 or 23A bus — Waterlooville's only 2 miles south and the high street has decent shops and cafés if you want to stretch your legs somewhere different.
Where to Eat and Drink
The White Hart on London Road is a proper neighbourhood local — good for a relaxed pint and some honest food. It's the kind of place where you bump into your neighbours and actually want to chat.
If you fancy something a bit livelier this weekend, The Red Lion on London Road is another solid choice — good atmosphere, especially on a sunny afternoon when you can sit outside.
For something different, that new eccentric café mentioned above might be worth a visit if it's in your orbit — independent places often have real character.
Worth Knowing
Bus tip: The 23 and 23A run regularly to Havant and Portsmouth — check the local timetable if you're planning to venture further afield. No rush on a weekend like this, though.
Community news: Keep an eye on local goings-on — between the new café, the record shop opening, and the genuine warmth our village has shown this week, it feels like Cowplain's having a moment. These are the kinds of neighbourhoods worth being part of.
Enjoy your week, and do pop down the local if you spot that couple celebrating their diamond anniversary — they've earned our cheers.
Warm regards,
