What's On in Cowplain: 28 June – 4 July 2026
A week of community spirit, sporting celebration, and spiritual renewal as summer gets into full swing in our village.
Good Morning, Cowplain
What a week it's been, neighbours! Summer's properly here now—the kind of weather that makes you want to get outside and enjoy our corner of Hampshire. We've had some brilliant local news to celebrate, and there's a real sense of community spirit in the air. So here's what's worth knowing as we head into the long weekend.
This Week in Cowplain
- A new priest has arrived: The Bishop of Portsmouth has appointed fresh pastoral leadership for our parish community. A warm welcome to our new priest—lovely to see the church strengthened with new energy and vision.
- Cowplain Youth Spitfires lift the Under-15 Cup: Our young footballers have claimed victory in the Portsmouth Youth League Under-15 Cup competition. Absolutely brilliant effort from the lads—go on, Spitfires!
- Diamond anniversary celebrations: A local couple marked 60 wonderful years of marriage this week, even receiving a special greeting from the King and Queen. That's the kind of Cowplain story that restores your faith in love and staying power.
- Our community shows its heart: Following a serious collision involving an elderly resident, neighbours have rallied with genuine care and support. That's what we do in Cowplain—we look after each other.
This Weekend
With weather like this, you'd be daft not to get out. Queen's Inclosure—our lovely ancient woodland just to the east—is perfect for a gentle summer walk. The light's beautiful in the late afternoon, and you'll spot all manner of wildlife if you're patient and quiet. Alternatively, if you fancy something more ambitious, Queen Elizabeth Country Park up the A3 (about five miles north) has 1,400 acres of chalk downland and forest to explore. Proper brilliant for families, dog walkers, and anyone who needs a bit of peace.
If you'd rather stay local, London Road's got two proper pubs worth visiting: The White Hart and The Red Lion both offer decent company and a good pint. The weather's meant for sitting outside with a drink and catching up with neighbours—or just people-watching.
Waterlooville's only about two miles south if you fancy a bit of shopping or a change of scenery. Buses 23 and 23A run regularly if you don't fancy driving.
Where to Eat and Drink
The White Hart on London Road is always a solid choice—proper local pub atmosphere, and you'll likely bump into familiar faces. Good for a relaxed weekend lunch or evening out.
The Heroes is worth a visit if you fancy something a bit different. Worth popping in to see what they've got on.
For a quieter pint and a chat, The Red Lion won't let you down either. All three have that real community feel that makes Cowplain what it is.
Worth Knowing
Keep an eye out for the new record shop opening: We've heard exciting rumours about a vinyl enthusiast opening a new record shop in our area this summer. Watch this space—could be a real gem for music lovers. We'll have more details for you as soon as we do.
Bus times and planning ahead: If you're heading anywhere further afield this week, remember buses 23 and 23A are your best bet. Worth checking times if you're planning an evening out—last buses fill up quickly during the summer.
Have a brilliant weekend, Cowplain. See you around the village!
