Cowplain Editorial31 May 2026

Good Morning, Cowplain

What a lovely time to be here as we slide into early June! The spring weather's been kind to us, and there's a real sense of new energy in the village this week. Whether it's fresh faces in the community or just the season bringing families outdoors again, Cowplain's showing what makes it such a nice place to call home.

This Week in Cowplain

  • New Priest Arrives: The Diocese of Portsmouth has appointed a new priest to serve our community — a warm welcome to them! It's always lovely when someone new joins the spiritual heart of Cowplain.
  • Messy Church Brings Families Together: If you've got kids or just fancy a bit of creative chaos with your neighbours, Messy Church has been doing brilliant work bringing families together through crafts and activities. There's real community spirit in that.
  • New Café Brings Colour to the High Street: A wonderfully eccentric new café has opened locally, and by all accounts it's been a real hit. Always nice when a new spot puts a smile on people's faces.
  • Cowplain Youth Spitfires Triumph: Huge congratulations to our young footballers — Cowplain Youth Spitfires have claimed the Portsmouth Youth League Under-15 Cup. That's the sort of news that makes you proud of the next generation!

This Weekend

For a proper walk: Head east to Queen's Inclosure Ancient Woodland — it's right on our doorstep and absolutely lovely this time of year. The woodland's full of life in late spring, and it's a genuine escape without needing to drive anywhere.

If you fancy something bigger: Queen Elizabeth Country Park is only about 5 miles north on the A3. Sixteen hundred acres of chalk downland and forest — perfect for a family afternoon or a good stomp if the weather holds.

Stay local and relax: The White Hart and The Red Lion are both on London Road and both worth a visit if you fancy a proper pint and a chat. Friendly spots where you'll likely bump into someone you know.

Shopping and browsing: Waterlooville town centre is just 2 miles south — easy enough on the 23 or 23A bus if you fancy a wander around the shops without the drive.

Where to Eat and Drink

The White Hart (London Road) remains a solid choice for a reliable meal and a proper local atmosphere. Good for families on a Sunday or mates catching up midweek.

The Red Lion (also on London Road) is worth checking in on — consistently good and knows how to make regulars feel welcome.

The Heroes is another neighbourhood favourite if you're after somewhere with character and a good community feel.

Worth Knowing

Bus routes 23 and 23A are your lifeline to Havant and Portsmouth — if you're heading out for the day, they're reliable and regular. Timetables are easy to check online, and they'll get you to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth (about 20-25 minutes) if you ever need it.

Welcome to our new priest — do consider popping along to any introductory events in the coming weeks. It's one of those things that quietly matters to community life.

Have a lovely week, Cowplain. See you about!
