What's On in Cowplain: 14 June 2026
Summer's here and Cowplain's buzzing — here's what to get up to this week in our corner of Hampshire.
Good Morning, Cowplain
What a week it's been! The sun's properly arrived now, the gardens are looking lush, and there's that lovely summer feeling settling over the village. This week we've got some nice local news to share, plus plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy the warm weather while it lasts.
This Week in Cowplain
- Record shop excitement coming to Portsmouth — A passionate entrepreneur is breathing new life into vinyl culture with a brand new record shop launching in the Portsmouth area this summer. If you're a collector or just fancy browsing some proper records, keep an eye out for the opening announcement. A real labour of love, this one.
- Local school playground getting a boost — A local housebuilder has been back at one of our Waterlooville schools this week, continuing improvements to the play facilities. Great to see investment in spaces where our young people spend their time.
- Summer's the time for community spirit — With the warmer weather here, it's a perfect opportunity to reconnect with neighbours and get involved in what's happening around us.
This Weekend
With the weather looking decent, here are some proper local ideas:
Get out into nature — Queen's Inclosure Ancient Woodland is right on our doorstep, just east of the village. Perfect for an easy walk, spotting wildlife, and getting some fresh air without having to go far. If you've got a bit more time and energy, Queen Elizabeth Country Park up the A3 (about 5 miles north) is absolutely worth the trip — 1,400 acres of chalk downland and forest, brilliant for a longer hike or just a relaxing afternoon.
Down to Waterlooville — It's only a couple of miles south, so easy to pop down for a proper rummage around the shops or a bit of retail therapy if you're after something specific. The 23 or 23A bus gets you there in no time if you'd rather not drive.
Enjoy a quiet pint — Both The White Hart and The Red Lion are on the London Road and perfect for a weekend drink. Nothing fancy, just good local pubs where you'll likely bump into familiar faces.
Where to Eat and Drink
The White Hart on London Road is a solid choice for a weekend drink — reliable, friendly, and you'll always find someone to chat to. Great spot to catch up with neighbours.
The Red Lion is just down the road and offers much the same — proper local atmosphere, the kind of place that's been part of Cowplain for years.
The Heroes is worth a visit if you fancy something a bit different. Always welcoming and a good community vibe.
Worth Knowing
Bus timetables — If you're heading out and about this week, remember the 23 and 23A run regularly to Havant and Portsmouth. Check the local timetables if you're planning a trip — summer means more tourists on the roads, so allow a bit extra time if you're driving.
Get out early — With the good weather here, popular spots like Queen's Inclosure and Queen Elizabeth Country Park will be busier than usual, especially at weekends. An early start means better parking and a more peaceful walk.
Have a lovely week, Cowplain. See you around the village!
